Fly nonstop to Steamboat — from your city.
One reason buyers from all over land in Routt County: in ski season you can fly nonstop here from roughly 17 cities, into the airport in my hometown of Hayden, 25 minutes from town. Below is the honest map — who flies direct, who's year-round (and why it's only Denver), and what it means if you're buying from out of state.
In a strong winter, Yampa Valley Regional (HDN) connects to about 17 major airports via six carriers — one of the best schedules in its history. But here's what's easy to miss: almost all of it is ski-season-only. Denver is the single year-round nonstop. Nearly everything else runs roughly mid-December into early April — the exceptions are a few limited summer runs United has added from Houston and Los Angeles — with dates, days, and carriers shifting every season. If you'll use your place outside winter, you'll connect through Denver — a real factor worth planning around. Always confirm the current schedule at flysteamboat.com.
The one that flies in every season.
Why Denver — and only Denver — flies year-round
Year-round nonstop service comes down to two things: steady demand outside ski season, and gates to park the planes. Denver clears both — it's close, it's a hub for both United and Southwest, and there's enough non-winter traffic to fill flights every day. More distant cities don't yet clear that first bar once the snow melts, and the airport is still building the second.
So for now the growth is depth, not new year-round cities. Southwest has committed to year-round, non-winter Denver service; United has been flying larger mainline jets on the Denver route and has added a few summer-seasonal runs — weekend nonstops from Houston and Saturday flights from Los Angeles — rather than launching brand-new year-round markets. The roughly 17-city winter network stays seasonal by design, running mid-December into April.
New year-round routes wait on capacity. The airport's West Terminal Expansion — the Phase 1 piece of a roughly $174 million plan, which broke ground in June 2026 and runs through about 2028 — adds four new gates and jet bridges, the groundwork airlines want before they'll schedule more year-round flying. Schedules shift every season, so track the current picture at flysteamboat.com.
What it means if you're buying from out of state: plan on Denver for reliable non-winter access today — but the trajectory here points to more service over time, not less.
