In ski season, Chicago O'Hare (ORD) flies nonstop to Yampa Valley Regional (HDN) on both United and American — roughly two and a half hours, gate to gate, into an airport about 25 minutes from downtown Steamboat. For a winter second home or ski getaway, that's about as easy as a Colorado mountain town gets.
The one catch: this is seasonal service, not year-round. The Chicago nonstop runs roughly mid-December into early April, and the exact dates, days, and carriers shift every season. Off-season, you'll usually connect through Denver. The only year-round nonstop to this airport is Denver itself. Chicago knows winter — so Steamboat is less a winter escape than a winter upgrade: dry, high-altitude sun and light Rocky Mountain powder instead of a flat, gray, lake-effect stretch, plus a genuine four-season base for summer.
